The popularity of the Aquatic Centre and triathlon club’s Aquathon series continues to thrive with another four new members signing on and racing on Tuesday. This week saw a return to racing for Keegan Mitchell and Evan Goad who haven’t raced since last year along with two long term absentees Shannon Apps and Brad Armstrong returning after a five-year absence.
This week, forty-two competitors took part over the 4 different categories and were greeted with a warm and heavy westerly wind. This combined with the uphill efforts on Clifford Street generally result in slower run times which also makes for some closer finishes.
The McIntyre twins Stella and Ava excelled this week with Stella taking out the Novice Division race (100m/2k) and Ava blitzing the Open 1 field against all comers. The Open 2 race was once again the most tightly contested race with only 5 minutes separating 1st from 12th, Ryan Croker, Conrad Bullock, Alison Rose, Rebecca Miles and Shannon Apps all showed improvement. In the long race (600m/6km) it was glamour couple Kurt Warn and Olivia Stutchbury who stood out, Kurt thanks to a sub-24-minute 6km run and Olivia courtesy of a sub 10-minute swim split.
Racing continues every Tuesday night at the Aquatic Centre at 6:00pm, new members are always welcome, and membership/entry can be purchased from the pool at any time. Results for this week were as follows:
