Member for Hume Angus Taylor and Member Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman today announced several groups have been awarded over $1,300,000 to promote community wellbeing and build disaster resilience in the region.
Communities in the region are set to benefit from joint Australian and NSW Government funding for locally based projects as part of the Bushfire Community Recovery and Resilience Fund (BCRRF).
Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor said the projects have been driven locally, with governments throwing their support behind community-led solutions.
“This funding is supporting a locally led recovery that focuses on community wellbeing, connectedness and future disaster resilience,” Mr Taylor said.
“The NSW Government is building a safer and stronger region by continuing to deliver funding to our bushfire affected communities. The BCRRF grants are just one example of bushfire funding in Goulburn Mulwaree, Upper Lachlan, the wider Canberra Region Joint Organisation area and Wingecarribee Shire Council,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
The following projects have been funded under the program:
- A Blueprint for a Resilient SE NSW which will allow Canberra Region Joint Organisation to work with communities to be better prepared for recovery and resilient to hazards through education, empowerment, and planning.
- A Simtable for the SE NSW which will provide a state-of-the-art tool for Canberra Regional Joint Organisation to engage communities in localised place-based emergency information sessions.
- Corporate2Community which will connect with local businesses and business chambers to increase risk understanding, preparedness, recovery, and resilience to current and future disasters.
- Identifying Vulnerable Contaminated Lands which will allow development of a Spatial Data Mapping Tool to assist Councils identify land parcels and sites containing unknown underground Petroleum Storage Systems (UPSS) and other contamination substances of a combustible or accelerant nature that pose a hazard risk.
- Goulburn Evacuation Centre which will allow Goulburn Mulwaree Council to install electrical power bollards at the Goulburn Recreation Centre to improve the operational effectiveness of the site when in use as a bushfire evacuation centre.
- Habitat for Humanity which will support for bushfire prevention activities in Wingecarribee Shire.
- Penrose Community Association which will purchase an electronic sign for the heart of the village.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Disaster Recovery, John Barilaro, said the projects will provide an important boost for local communities with a focus on long-term recovery efforts.
“The Government has committed $4.4 billion to bushfire recovery with every bushfire affected LGA receiving support.
These recovery efforts have been driven by locals who care about their communities and want to make a difference and we are continuing to assist them through this process.
“The nature of these grants is locally led and diverse, depending on the needs of the communities, with projects targeted at issues like mental health and assisting local businesses. The number of high-quality submissions we received is a credit to the ingenuity and resilience of our regions and I am pleased to see more support going out to every corner of our state.”
