Discussion between Premier Berejiklian and Mayor Kirk
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman MP joined Mayor Kirk and General Manager Warwick Bennett following the attestation parade for class 346 at the Goulburn Police Academy.
Discussion centred on the fact that Goulburn Mulwaree is meeting and exceeding all targets for population and economic growth, and the importance of future planning to deliver the State and Local Government services needed to accommodate this.
“We have a fantastic relationship with Wendy and the NSW Government, and it was great to be able to discuss these issues face to face with our Premier following my letter earlier this year” said Mayor Bob Kirk.
“As our region grows it is so important that our infrastructure is planned early, rather than trying to deliver this after the fact. It is so important that we have the conversations around the need to increase school capacity, our traffic and transport infrastructure, and promotion of job creating enterprises in Goulburn Mulwaree.”
“Premier Berejiklian was certainly very generous with her time and understands the importance of beginning this work now so that these services and infrastructure are in place early.
This Council has a history of strong partnership with the NSW Government, as evidenced by the delivery of landmark projects such as the Aquatic Centre Redevelopment, the new Goulburn Hospital and our Performing Arts Centre.”
Other focus points discussed during the meeting included improving NBN and technology provision, waste to energy projects and the expansion of the Country University Centre model and TAFE education in this region.
Mayor Kirk thanked the Premier for the delivery of some other outstanding projects in recent years that are already completed, such as upgrade of the Goulburn Correctional Facility and the Police Academy and the new Ambulance Station in Bourke Street
