Saturday 13th March was a warm and sunny day and perfect for a visit to the beautiful Historic Waterworks in Goulburn.
We were treated to a tour through the Waterworks Pumphouse and the operation of the 1883 Appleby Brothers Steam Beam Engine.
A Makers and Designers Market was set up next to the Pump House. This is the first time it has been run here and it was busy with its wide assortment of handmade goods and food available and a Watercolour workshop there and live entertainment from the stage set on the riverbank with wide green spaces to sit, relax, listen, and picnic on.
Steam Punk Fashion for people and dogs
Dogs were welcome and some of them and their owners dressed for the occasion in fabulous and eye-catching Steam Punk fashion. (Steam Punk is a mix of Victoriana and Futuristic fashion). There was also a Steam Punk fashion shop selling clothes and jewellery. I couldn’t resist some of the earrings!
People were obviously enjoying being back in community spaces together on a gorgeous autumn day in a lovely location.
The Rocky Hill War Memorial is a in a very impressive location in Goulburn with its 360-degree views of the area. It was an awe-inspiring feeling gazing up at the Memorial Tower and climbing to the top viewing room with just the sound of the wind rattling and moaning through the metal cladding outside. A perfect soundtrack to the place and the photo displays.
Both the original and new exhibition spaces hold world class displays. In the new museum the opening exhibition is Objects of National Significance: When war trophies came to Goulburn. I found the displays moving, fascinating and heartrending.
I urge everyone who hasn’t paid a visit to Rocky Hill to do so. We are very fortunate to have such world class and significant exhibitions here in Goulburn.
