Crookwell District Hospital has recently received a $385,000 boost from the NSW Government to refurbish its palliative care facilities.
Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman said the refurbishments will help bring comfort to people at the end of life, along with their families and carers.
“There will be more space and improved accommodation to support patients, carers and families at what can be a stressful and emotional time. There will be an outdoor space including a peaceful and tranquil garden, as well as new equipment and furnishings,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
“These refurbishments will allow families to gather more comfortably. It also means the hospital can expand its emergency department while still providing high-quality palliative care services.”
These facilities are among 34 palliative care facilities across NSW that will be refurbished over the next two years.
The latest round of funding follows the success of $4.5 million allocated for refurbishments in 2019-20 and 2020-21. Both funding rounds were a part of a $45 million enhancement for palliative care announced in the 2019-20 NSW Budget.
This enhancement, and a further $56 million announced in late 2020, support:
- 5,000 end-of-life home support packages being available across NSW from 1 July 2021
- the recruitment of 100 new palliative care nurses
- more Aboriginal Health Workers
- digital health to improve access to palliative care
- enhancement of bereavement services
- educational services to those involved in palliative care.
