Police Citizens Youth Clubs NSW (PCYC) are currently gearing up for the Nations of Origin tournament, which runs from 29th June – 2nd July 2021.
The Nations of Origin tournament has been designed to promote reconciliation within communities and engage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Aboriginal members in PCYC through the games of Rugby League 7s, Football 5s, Basketball, Netball, and for the first time this year, Gymnastics.
The concept of the tournament was initiated seven years ago after consultation with Aboriginal Communities across NSW and young people, and motivates youth to celebrate Australia’s diverse indigenous culture and its deep impact on our history and their stories.
Since its inception, the event has been hugely successful. The 2019 tournament saw the engagement of over 1,400 Indigenous and non-Indigenous young people from across NSW participating in the multi-faceted program. Teams representing their Aboriginal Nations participated in netball, rugby league and football fives tournaments. Teams were supported by over 300 volunteer supervisors, managers, coaches and trainers, who worked with teams in the lead up to, and during the events.
