Okay gals, here’s the low down on the sprouting up. As we age, facial hair happens to ALL of us, irrespective of our racial backgrounds and ethnic identities.
Now there are several ways that facial hair can be tackled. The first, and possibly most radical move is to accept it. That’s right, wear your badge of eldership and wisdom with pride. Frida Kahlo, that magnificent Mexican artist, wore her monobrow and moustache with pride, and so can we. However, if this is a step too far, then read on.
The simplest way of ridding ourselves of unwanted facial hair at home is through plucking or using hair removal crème. It’s recommended that you use a light moisturiser before applying hair removal crème or else you may end up with a skin irritation in the shape of a moustache or a beard. Always follow the directions and never leave the crème on for longer than stated on the packet.
If doing it yourself is not ideal, then book yourself in to see a beautician to have your facial hair removed by waxing. If you want to have your facial hair dealt in a more permanent manner, then consider electrolysis or laser hair removal.
Electrolysis involves the removal of hair roots via the application of heat using an electric current. Laser hair removal (often advertised as Intense Pulse Light or IPL) involves using a laser to remove unwanted hair. Please check to see the qualifications of people who provide these services. Ideally IPL practitioners should have recognised qualifications such as an Advanced Diploma of Intense Pulse Light (IPL) and Laser for Hair Reduction.
