Range Road has been significantly upgraded, with over 16.6km of improvements now completed. Vegetation removal, bitumen resealing, new line marking, signage and guideposts were all undertaken as part of the works.
Over $1.77 million was spent on the project, with significant contributions from all three levels of Government:
- $452,076 was contributed through the Federal Government Roads to Recovery Fund
- $825,592 was contributed through the NSW Government Restart NSW Fund
- $495,000 was contributed by Goulburn Mulwaree Council
“The successful completion of the project has been beneficial for farming and commercial activities in the area, specifically improving access for heavy vehicles opening up agricultural opportunities within the LGA and beyond into the Upper Lachlan Shire” said Mayor Bob Kirk.
Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman said the significant state investment in Range Road was funded through the Fixing Country Roads - to improve freight efficiency in the region.
“The NSW Government is committed to making it easier to move produce and product to port and plate,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
“The ability to use larger vehicles will reduce operating costs and increase productivity for carriers, as well as lead to an overall reduction of heavy vehicles on local roads. The upgrade has also created safer zones for passing which benefits all road users,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor said the Roads to Recovery funding in Goulburn has allowed Council to progress several of its critical regional road projects in need of upgrade and repair.
“I’m thrilled that we could provide this support to Council to enable the upgrades to Range Road. This section of road will now be much safer for all those vehicles regularly travelling this stretch of road,” Mr Taylor said.
On average, 16 people were employed for the duration of the project, with this number peaking at 25 through different stages.
The increased road width has improved driver safety for residents and those passing through as the previous pavement width was below the required standard for the classification of the road.
