The Goulburn Mulwaree Council was one of 20 NSW Councils to be awarded a $10,000 grant from the Community War Memorials Fund, enabling conservation work to begin on the Rocky Hill War Memorial and Museum’s beacon.
Mayor Bob Kirk thanked the NSW Government for the funding, which will preserve the important asset at Rocky Hill.
“As many community members would know, our Rocky Hill beacon light has needed numerous repairs over the years, and was in need of replacing due to the ageing infrastructure. The funding being announced today allows us to restore the beacon permanently, supporting the conservation of our War Memorial,” said Mayor Kirk.
Minister for Veterans Geoff Lee said supporting memorial conservation is one way the NSW Government strives to acknowledge veterans. “Memorials and commemorative activities across our state are testaments to the contribution of veterans, both as individuals and as a group,” Mr Lee said.
“Veterans have told us recognition of service is important to them, so we’ll continue to support projects that share their stories now and into the future.”
Organisations including memorial trusts, local councils and veteran groups can also apply for funding now. Applications close 26 July 2021. For more information or to apply, visit: www.veterans.nsw.gov.au/heritage/community-war-memorials-fund
