Goulburn is a central location for the scenic Southern Tablelands and is uniquely placed as a base for cycling in the area.

The Goulburn Cycling Club supports regular recreational bunch rides most weekends which gives participants the opportunity to improve their cycling fitness, to learn from more experienced riders and to enhance their skills of riding in a group while enjoying picturesque rural scenery. In the warmer months, with longer daylight hours, early morning or evening bunch rides also regularly appear during the weekdays.

The Club is always keen to encourage new and prospective members to its recreational rides. Details of upcoming rides are usually posted to the Facebook site: Greengrocer Log Your Ride, a day or two prior to the event.

The Goulburn Tourist Information Centre has a free map of rides around the Goulburn district while further information can be sourced from other online such as: Strava.

Some of the most frequented local rides from Goulburn include:

Middle Arm Rd

A scenic out and back trip over flat terrain until more hilly country is reached at around the 13km mark. There are various designated spots to turn—the bushfire brigade shed at the junction with Rhyanna Rd (approx. 30km return), the Mt Pedlar Rd (approx. 40km return) and to the end of the bitumen (approx. 55km return).

Range Rd

An undulating to hilly ride which provides a good work out for the legs. The usual ride is 40km, going out via Chinaman’s Lane, to top of a longish hill at the junction with the Old Pomeroy Mill Rd (near a local Yurt farm).

Windellama Rd

Another out and back trip on generally flattish terrain. To the second embankment cutting is approx. 55km return.

Mountain Ash Rd

A scenic out and back ride to the village of Bungonia (approx. 50km return). A flat 10km over the Gundarry Plains soon turns more hilly country with some large climbs on the return leg.

Gap loop

A shorter 36km circuit out via the Gundurrah Rd before turning onto the Gap Rd, then onto the Pomeroy Rd, before returning to Goulburn via the Hume Hwy. Popular as a regular early morning training run during the warmer months of the year. Note: considerable care needs to taken while riding on the Hwy due to the passing of high speed traffic.

Gundurrah/Breadalbane loop

A 70km circuit out along the Gundurrah Rd with a lot of uphill section after the Gap Rd is passed, beforeheading over to Breadalbane (via the Mullins Creek Rd) and then a flat return to Goulburn via the Hume Hwy. Note: see warning above concerning Hwy riding.

Grand Prix (GP) circuit

A longer, very pleasant round trip of 85-90km. The route is relatively flat to Windellama, becomes more undulating across to Bungonia and then riders need to tackle some large hills on the way back to Goulburn via the Mountain Ash Road.
