Our ability to travel to Tokyo to watch the 2021 Olympic Games might be dashed given the global pandemic, yet thanks to television and online exhibitions such as the one currently held by the National Museum of Australia, there’s no excuse not to get into the Olympic spirit.
To celebrate the opening of the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games on 23rd July, the National Museum of Australia is enabling exploration of Australia’s sporting history through the Museum’s Olympic collection and the stories of the athletes who wear the green and gold. Available are vignettes outlining the careers of Cathy Freeman (2000), John Konrads (1960), Nova Peris (1996), Sue Powell (2012) and Neale Navis (1960). Learn about Australian Olympic history, and watch a video that highlights the Museum’s Sydney Olympics collection, which were on show in 2020. Watch the full Live at the Museum video on YouTube with Sydney 2000 Olympic swimmer Petria Thomas and handballer Taip Ramadani, and curator Laina Hall.
